flash over florescent

flash over florescent

DTT for a rematch with her artness, Cathie Pilkington

favouring flash over florescent

florescent is ok for a moody shot of a band or person: it is not ok for consistent photography of great art

who knew?

après shoot, relocated to JSR for some conversation then a 'working' dinner somewhere with a plentiful supply of cow

the reality of my agent's life is far more dramatic than anything i could imagine for him on my instagram posts.

stopped overnight in a hotel called Z

i choose to think this is my second son's hotel chain and that (like his name) it has nothing to do with Russian crazed war loving scum.

i used to run, and live at 'corsham street studios' round the corner from this hotel 1994-95

this area is almost unrecognisable to me: it now feels a lot like parts of Manhattan

at corsham street studios (aka CLICK STUDIOS) i earned £50 a day if either or both of the studios were rented: whatever the hours including overtime
some weeks i'd get £100 a week and sometimes (rarely) £250 a week

i'd open the studio at 8am everyday

most shoots finished at 6pm but often they'd run late into overtime

as often as possible, when everyone had left, I'd get friends over to do my own shoot with the hire-kit that was waiting to be collected the next day.

(this is where i learnt to make photos)

after I'D finished shooting, i'd clean both studios and paint both coves white into the early hours

the downstairs cove was a huge full infinity cove
i'd usually finish cleaning up and painting to catch a few hours sleep before opening up again the next morning

i slept on a piece of cardboard on the studio floor.

after a while i got a mattress in a cupboard, in the offices next door.

the owner thought i was just using it for storage...i was: i was storing myself.

used to wash in the studio toilet's sink or in the showers at the local pool down the road if i had time

yes: i do live in a very grand Georgian mansion house now
but i wasn't born in one:
i fought my way here, with Lucy (my hard-working partner in grime)
