checking out of holiday inn this morning, the girl on reception asked, 'how was your stay?'

'it was ok', i said

'on a scale of 1-10 what number would you give your stay?' asked the girl

'ur....5...perhaps?' i replied trying to be neither unrealistic or unkind

'OH NO!' she exclaimed, shocked and apparently upset, 'what was wrong with your stay??'

'nothing really', i said, honestly

a more senior member of staff magically appeared

'what was WRONG with your stay?? any score under an 8 is considered unacceptable here'

'oh, i see...well, it was DEFINITELY an 8 then' i lied.

'oh (phew) that's ok then' they concurred, and let me leave.

leaving salubrious Runcorn, drove into Wales

i was early to photograph Mark Jordan so stopped at the castle at flint for a wander

there is a remarkable health and safety swerving, metal, spiral staircase up the inside of one tower.

the wind was howling up there and i enjoyed a little vertigo at the top

then at welsh tesco returned my over-large, unworn swimming trunks

had a happy shoot with mark and his drag queen partner SHAGGER

enjoyed listening to their fascinating life stories and got to play with their 11 week old puppy

worked out we had a lot of mutual friends

after we'd finished our shootings, we were talking when my phone rang so i diverted it to answerphone

in the car on the way home i listened to the message

couldnt make it out at first: bit muffled

third listen i worked it out, 'hi this is holiday inn at runcorn. could you call us back on .... we'd like to discuss your stay'

them REALLY don't like people not to have had the BEST night ever in their hotel

5.5hrs to drive home

i F***ing LOVE rainbows!

this time though, i did not stop to take photographs
